Dear Towerpoint,

Total wealth around the globe reached $317 trillion (!) this year, according to the 9th annual Global Wealth Reportpublished by Credit Suisse Research Institute. This translates to $63,000 per adult, a record.

The nation with the most wealth? The United States, at $98 trillion. The report noted "the seemingly relentless rise in household wealth in the U.S." In spite of all the problems and issues we have, we need to remind ourselves just how fortunate we are to live in such a prosperous country.

Understanding that the most common definition of wealth has to do with financial prosperity, or an abundance of valuable material possessions or resources, many of us do think about the word in non-financial terms. The real measure of it for some might be the value of your life if you lost all your money. Or, as the Greek philosopher Epictetus said:

At Towerpoint Wealth, we have always believed that money, in its purest form, is just a means to an end, a lubricant that lets one slide through life rather than scrape. But depending on how you define the words, having money does not necessarily equate to being wealthy, and our overarching goal with each of you, our clients, is to help you clarify the abstraction between these two concepts, and then develop and execute on a disciplined plan to bridge them.

We also have a wealth of information at our fingertips in today's digital age, and concurrently, a 24/7 information cycle. The past two weeks were no exception:
